Welcome 6B

Welcome 6B Parents! I am excited for the 2016/2017 school year with this new group of students. Grade six Mathematics is a year of many new topics, as well as freshening up on old topics in order to get more skilled at them. This blog will not be where I will post homework (I will use Google Classroom for that), but it will serve as a centralized location for website links, pertinent information regarding the scope and sequence of the year, and videos that relate to the material. This may change and/or evolve over the next few months as I start to familiarize myself with blogging. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions, comments or concerns at crowley@bpsk12.org. Thanks!

Dream Room Projects

Students had to create a fabulous dream room that contained 4 essential items and 6 creative and/or imaginative items that they would love to have in their “dream room.” After the students picked the items, they made the outline of a 30 ft. by 40 ft. room on graph paper. Each square on the graph paper represented 1 square foot. The boys and girls drew the items in their rooms from a birds-eye-view perspective and colored them in. After they created their room, they filled out the spreadsheet with a description of each item, the dimensions, the area, and the perimeter. This is a sampling of their great efforts!

Area and Perimeter Scavenger Hunt!

Today the students searched my room for rectangles and squares with certain areas and perimeters. This scavenger hunt was fabulous review for Monday’s quiz on sections 1.5 and section 1.6 (area and perimeter). Students worked in teams and measured various items around the room. IMG_0053 IMG_0052 IMG_0050 IMG_0049 IMG_0051 (1) IMG_0048 IMG_0047 IMG_0045 IMG_0044 IMG_0060 IMG_0057 IMG_0056 IMG_0055 IMG_0054

Welcome!

This is my first attempt at a blog, but I am excited to try it. I will be posting projects and other important information on this site, but my homework will still be posted in my Google Classroom. I am absolutely looking for advice, help, and feedback.
